Country House Kitchen, Suffolk

Overlooking the River Deben near Woodbridge, this country property enjoys broad views and reflected light. A generous, refurbished room provides the setting for an expansive family kitchen. The brief for Luxmoore & Co was to design eclectic kitchen furniture, in sympathy with the characterful house and practical for a busy young family.

The centrepiece is a wide island, designed for food preparation and where friends and family naturally congregate. A fossil-stone surface has drain ramps for the sinks, with handsome Perrin and Rowe bib taps giving a traditional look. To the side of the washing area is a 40mm ash worktop, ideal for bread-making, and the numerous cabinets below house dishwasher, pull-out bins, crockery and cutlery.

Deep drawers are set either side of the Aga for pots and pans. Luxmoore & Co drawers are always made in one of our solid English hardwoods, with dovetailed joints and mounted on strong, soft-closing slides. They easily take the weight of Le Creuset pots or stacked plates and bowls. One side of this has section has a signature detail – a stack of four smaller drawers in solid English burr oak. These cabinets have bespoke stainless steel worktops for the practicality of a catering kitchen.

A free-standing dresser adds interest to the room. It is built in painted English ash, with oiled English oak worktop and back panels. The doors below are zinc mesh panelled, reminiscent of early 20th century kitchen furniture.
