Luxmoore & Co recently completed this project at the Moat Barn in Suffolk, situated just outside Framlingham. The brief for our client was to create an open plan, ergonomic kitchen space for cooking food with the family, while also creating a place for relaxation and calm. Some might describe it as a kind of Scandi/Suffolk fusion. English oak and elm was used to compliment the ancient beams of the barn. All English hardwoods were sourced from woodlands near our workshop in Suffolk, creating a kitchen with distinctive provenance.
Cupboards and Furniture were made from ash, sweet chestnut, oak and elm. The heart of the kitchen is the Everhot 120i range cooker supplied by Diss Ironworks. A glazed walk-in pantry, complemented by reclaimed Welsh slate worktops worked perfectly for this client who is a true foodie.
For the dining area, a long banquet table made from stunning elm boards fills the space and provides plenty of seating for special occasions. Nestled among the leather sofas are solid oak side tables which were made strong enough to double up as stools for sitting around the fire on cold evenings.
We worked closely with a local interior designer called The Cotton Tree to help create a softness to this living space. They advised on colour schemes and supplied fabrics and curtains. We were also asked to furnish other rooms in the house: oak utility cupboards sitting beneath a custom-made stainless-steel top, a boot room bench with peg rail and hat shelf as well as a painted broom cupboard.
